"I work as a critical care physician at a major hospital system in the northeast. My colleagues and I have been working endlessly to fight a worsening pandemic. Month after month. case counts get higher and higher... first halloween, then Thanksgiving, and now the holidays. Our ICU's have been full since 2 weeks ago, and there is no room for more. I fear that this pandemic will overwhelm our system before we see spring, and before we see vaccines being rolled out in large enough numbers. We are all showing clear signs of chronic fatigue, and there is no end in sight. 2 nurses in our department came down with COVID and one of them unknowingly infected family members during Thanksgiving. We're all anxious, wondering who is next; and overwhelmed, wondering when this will all be over."
We appreciate the opportunity to share stories like these with our community, with the goal of destigmatizing the struggles faced within the medical field.
